The Erotic Mind of Johnny Murdoc — Podcast #254 — 01/10/11

[Look for the podcast play button below.]

Hey sex fans, welcome back!

Today we launch the 2011 edition of The Erotic Mind podcast series. This is the longest running of the four interview series currently underway here on my site. Since it’s inception back in early September 2008 we’ve had an opportunity to meet dozens of brilliant visual and literary erotic artists. It’s astonishing that every artist I interview has something unique to reveal about of the creative process involved with this specialized art form. I truly love interviewing these ingenious people. And judging from your comments, I guess you do too.

This week’s show takes us to the wilds of St Louis, MO, don’t cha know, where we meet an exceptionally talented young man who is making his mark as a sex writer. I have the pleasure of welcoming Johnny Murdoc. And you should note that this is his very first interview.

While researching Johnny and his work for this show, I discovered, to my great delight, that he is a wonderfully old fashioned kinda guy and he is a man with a conscience. He contributes to the world of erotic art on several different fronts — fiction for sure, but also erotic comics and his marvelous nonfiction sex writing that is both thought provoking and stirs the soul.

Johnny and I discuss:

  • Writing under a nom de plume;
  • Writing as a kid;
  • His work at Sex Positive St Louis;
  • The therapeutic nature of reading erotica aloud;
  • The back-story of his comic, Crash Course;
  • Class Comics;
  • The difference between illustrated erotica and written prose erotica.

I also prevail upon Johnny to share with us two selections of the fruit of his Erotic Mind. And he amiably agrees to read from his contribution to The Best Gay Erotica, 2011.

[Look for the podcast play button below.]

Hey sex fans,

The Erotic Mind series returns today and not a moment too soon either. I truly love interviewing these noted visual and literary erotic artists. And judging from the comments I receive, I guess you do too. I get so much out of chatting with these ingenious people, because they never fail to reveal something of the creative process involved with this specialized art form.

This week’s show takes us to the south of England where we meet a rising star in the firmament of erotic fiction. I have the pleasure of welcoming K D Grace. Her first novel, The Initiation of Ms Holly, is receiving critical acclaim, and for good reason. We will be talking about it and a boatload of other interesting topics, including one that I rarely get to talk about with an erotic artist. This is pretty powerful stuff, sex fans. Don’t miss it.

K D and I discuss:

  • Our mutual friend, Kay Jaybee;
  • Her life in the UK;
  • 20+ publications in three years;
  • What sex can disclose about a character in fiction;
  • The freedom of writing under her nom de plume;
  • The storyline of her novel: The Initiation of Ms Holly;
  • Her fascination with mythology;
  • Healing the rift between sexuality and spirituality;
  • What sparks the erotic images in her work;
  • Erotica as part of sex writing.

I even prevail upon K D to share with us a selection of the fruit of her Erotic Mind. And she graciously agrees to read a delectable morsel from her novel.

I don’t know about you but I’ve like totally jonesin’ for another fix of The Erotic Mind podcast series.  It’s seems like it’s been ages since the episode. But today we return to home base and visit with an artist who creates his erotica with the written word. I have the pleasure of introducing you to the enormously talented author and editor, M. Christian. He is probably the most prolific author we’ve met to date. And besides his big fat uncut writing talent, he is also a sheer joy to chat with.

The Erotic Mind of Jesse Belle-Jones – Podcast #224 – 08/09/10

[Look for the podcast play button below.]

Hey sex fans,

Do ya’ll remember several weeks ago when I interviewed John Woods & Cass King; they were in town to produce their stage production called SHINE: A Burlesque Musical? I mean, how could you forget that, right?

Well, at about that same time I began to follow the tweets of one the cast members of that show. I became so jazzed by her and all the brilliant stuff she was doing that I decided to hit her up to be my guest for the Sex EDGE-U-cation podcast series. But midway through our conversation I realize that we are discussing erotic art as much as anything else. And that’s when it comes to me; my guest, the exceptional burlesque talent, Jesse Belle-Jones, fits equally well into my The Erotic Mind series too.

So not only is Jesse’s appearance here today another wonderful twofer; she is also the first guest in this series that creates her erotic art using the medium of her very own body! Hot DAMN!

Jesse and I discuss:

  • Behind the scenes at SHINE: A Burlesque Musical;
  • Sinner/Saint Burlesque —
  • Local burlesque critics;
  • Body politics;
  • What is “good” burlesque;
  • Naked Girls Reading —
  • Her appearance at The Seattle Erotic Art Festival;
  • Will there be a Naked Boys Reading;
  • BurlyCon —
  • The purpose of the convention and who’s invited;
  • Workshops and panel discussions;
  • Crossing cultural boundaries;
  • How she got her start in burlesque;
  • Her stage name;
  • Her favorite aspects of burlesque.

See Jesse at work and play.
